Since nobody has really said anything in writing yet, here it goes...
Boomerang Gaming has for the past few years provided Australia & New Zealand with much pleasure and excitement and as more of you visit this forum, I hope you all take the time to read through this post, reflect and not take for granted the huge service BG has done for the Australian Mount&Blade community (and to some extent, the NZ players who play on the servers).
I've been around since warband beta and I have seen the ups and downs of Australian Warband. I've been through thick and thin, the start and end of many communities and I can say that the closest Australian Mount&Blade came to extinction was shortly after the GameArena and Game.on.net servers shut down.
These were the only two truly OFFICIAL public server providers as each were owned by two of Australia's biggest ISP's. GameArena was owned by Bigpond (Telstra) and Games.on.net was owned by Internode (now acquired by iiNET). Everything else in existence (even today) were privately owned servers such as TGD_Duels (TGD_Direct), AUS_cRPG (Murtagh_CN), LCC (Baron_Baanus) and MOV (Hikkupz). Each private server has their own set of rules to suit their needs and vision and maintained their own level of integrity.
When GameArena & GON shut down... the players in Australia & New Zealand were left to choose between LCC and MOV if they wanted to continue to play. Each group as far as I was aware had disagreements with one another (for reasons I still don't understand and don't really care to get into).
It wasn't until Boomerang Gaming was founded a few years ago and the recent changes that saw MOV and BG come together that we actually saw the community unite as one similar to what it was like when GameArena and GON were both around all those years ago.
Although Boomerang Gaming has closed, its legacy will be felt in many ways for years to come. I'd like to personally thank all involved for making this possible and giving Australia/NZ Mount&Blade the life support it needed to make it this far.
Moving forward, I hope to carry on this legacy through Native and then into Bannerlords. Hopefully we can make it.
I urge everyone who reads this post to consider where they'd be in Mount&Blade without the services of BG. It certainly would've been a much darker place without it.
Regards,
RomaN
